This month is full of wonderful saints and a beautiful opportunity to learn more about the power of the Rosary in our lives. We remember our Guardian Angels, St. Francis of Assisi and St. John Paul the Great.
St. Faustina, the Apostle of Mercy, gave us the beautiful Chaplet of Divine Mercy and this would be a wonderful chance to learn this prayer as a family. It can be said or sung. Find a link to the prayer here on this page.
It is also a great time to learn the Guardian Angel prayer.
Don't forget to use www.formed.org for more resources. If you like crafts, check out click here for Catholic Icing. There is a wealth of wonderful ideas there!
St. Therese of Lisieux: October 1 - She is a Doctor of the Church and known for her "Little Way". She reminds us that we can all do small things for God. She invented Sacrifice Beads as a way to prepare for her First Commuion. See link to try making them yourself.
Guaridan Angel: October 2 - Psalm 91 speaks of how our angels watch over us and our Church teaches that each of us have our own guardian angel that is always with us. Memorize the prayer and say it every morning when you wake up and each evening as you fall asleep.
St. Francis of Assisi: October 4 - One of the most well known and popular saints even among non-Catholics. He was a lover of animals, created the first nativity scene (Creche), and founded the Franciscan order. He has a radical story of conversion to the Lord. Learn more about him using the links on this page.
St. Faustina: October 5 - Faustina was a Polish nun who had visions from Jesus and shared the message of Divine Mercy. Learning the simple prayer, "Jesus, I Trust in You" is a perfect way to let the Lord take care of all the things that worry us. Find the Divine Mercy image and talk about what you all see and what the parts of the image represent. (See info in the links)
Our Lady of the Rosary: October 7 - Celebrating our Lady and her most powerful prayer, the Rosary. Try praying the rosary every day for a week as a family. Offer your intentions for all your loved ones and maybe some for our parish as well. See the links for some fun ideas as a family.
St. Teresa of Avila: October 14 - Patron Saint of Spain and one of the first female Doctors of the Church. She is known for her deep spirituality and her fiesty personality. This is one of our favorites.
"Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things will pass away. God never changes; patience obtains all things, whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone suffices. Amen."
St. John Paul 2: October 22 - He is one of our most popular popes in history and is loved by millions. Born in Poland, he lived through war, the Nazi's occupation, and then the Soviet occupation of his homeland. He was a brave and faithful man and learning more about his life will bless your entire family. He introduced the Luminous Mysteries to the Rosary. Maybe pray those mysteries on this day in honor of him.
