  As a Baptism/Confirmation sponsor, your role is to encourage the faith of your candidate and be an “example” to your godchild/candidate and to reflect with your godchild/candidate as they grow on the meaning of a life of Catholic discipleship.
  
  The Code of Canon Law (Canon 874)) specifies the requirements for serving as godparents at Baptism or a sponsor at Confirmation: You may not be the parent of the person being baptized/confirmed; you must be at least 16 years old; you must be fully initiated (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) in the Catholic Church; if married, be in a valid Catholic marriage; and live a life of active faith in the Catholic Church.
